A Tenacious Addition to the Eagles
Florida Gulf Coast University’s men’s basketball program received a significant boost this week as head coach Pat Chambers announced the commitment of Elijah Brooks, a 6‑foot‑3 guard whose reputation for physicality and defensive intensity precedes him. Chambers highlighted Brooks’s blend of size, strength and relentless aggression, traits that align with the Eagles’ evolving identity.
Brooks arrives after two seasons at Houston Christian University, where he posted a career‑high 29 points against Northern Arizona and consistently ranked among the team leaders in scoring and shooting efficiency. At HCU he averaged 12.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in the 2025‑26 campaign, shooting a robust 47.8 % from the field. His prior stint at the University of North Dakota, where he appeared in 22 games as a sophomore and 27 as a freshman, further demonstrates his adaptability across different competitive environments.
Beyond his on‑court contributions, Brooks is distinguished by his academic performance. He was named Southland Academic All‑Conference following the 2024‑25 season, underscoring a commitment to scholarship that mirrors the university’s broader mission.
The Brooks family brings a unique narrative to Fort Myers. Elijah is the son of Peter Brooks and Kateshieus Anderson, and he grows up alongside five younger siblings — Geovione, Demageo, Samyah, Saniyah and A’Lajah — who have supported his journey from Texas to Florida.
Pat Chambers, who has guided FGCU to multiple postseason appearances, expressed confidence that Brooks will enhance the team’s depth and defensive versatility. “Elijah brings a rare combination of toughness and skill,” Chambers said. “He fits perfectly into the culture we are building here.”
The addition of Brooks also strengthens FGCU’s recruiting pipeline in the southern United States, linking the program with institutions such as Houston Christian University and the University of North Dakota, both of which have contributed to his development.
