A boost for the defensive line
Michigan State’s football program received a significant boost this week as Pat Fitzgerald, the team’s head coach, announced the verbal commitment of Aidan Boehle, a 6‑foot‑6, 245‑pound edge rusher from Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Boehle, who spent last season at Division II Winona State, posted two sacks and four tackles in a limited role, numbers that belied his raw talent and athleticism.
The recruit has two years of eligibility remaining, giving the Spartans a rare opportunity to develop a player who can immediately contribute on the edge of their defense.
Fitzgerald emphasized that Boehle’s size and pass‑rushing ability fit the defensive scheme the staff has been refining after a 4‑8 finish in 2023, a season that left the team searching for playmakers.
The commitment comes at a pivotal moment, with the Spartans set to open their 2024 campaign against Toledo on September 4, a game that will serve as the first test of a revamped defensive front.
Boehle’s decision also reflects the growing appeal of the Michigan State program, which has been working to restore its reputation after a challenging year.
University officials highlighted the addition of Boehle as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the roster, noting the involvement of academic support services at both Michigan State University and his previous institution, Winona State University.
