Pat Kelsey, the newly appointed head coach of the Louisville Cardinals, has unveiled a non‑conference schedule that pits his team against some of the nation’s most formidable programs for the 2026‑27 season.
A gauntlet of elite competition
The centerpiece of the slate is a showdown with the Michigan Wolverines, the reigning national champions, scheduled for Dec. 5 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The Wolverines enter the game fresh off a 37‑3 campaign and sit among the top rankings, making the matchup an early litmus test for Louisville.
Louisville will also travel to face the Texas Longhorns, currently ranked No. 7, on Dec. 1, and later in the month will meet Kentucky Wildcats, a No. 17 team, on Dec. 12. The early‑season slate begins with games against Chattanooga and Morehead State in November, before the Cardinals enter the Players Era Festival tournament where they are slated to meet Texas Tech Red Raiders in the first round on Nov. 24.
The schedule’s difficulty is amplified by an exhibition against the Kansas Jayhawks, a program that reached the second round of the 2025‑26 NCAA tournament, and by a potential second‑round clash with either St. John’s Red Storm or Oregon Ducks, with later possibilities against Tennessee Volunteers, Iowa State Cyclones, Maryland Terrapins or San Diego State Aztecs.
