A Legend Departs
Pat Vereb, who has guided the Peters Township girls soccer program since 2007, announced his resignation after 19 seasons at the helm, bringing an era that produced three consecutive state titles and a 28‑match unbeaten streak against WPIAL opponents to a close.
Vereb retires with more than 400 career wins, having previously coached at Keystone Oaks and Mt. Lebanon before establishing his legacy at Peters Township, a suburban program that rose to national prominence under his guidance.
During his tenure, the Indians captured WPIAL championships in 2010, 2012 and 2024, and secured three straight PIAA Class 3A state titles from 2010 through 2012, highlighted by a 1‑0 victory over Archbishop Wood in the 2010 final and a 1‑0 win against Pennridge in 2011.
The 2012 championship completed a three‑peat with a 1‑0 triumph over Cumberland Valley, while the most recent crown came in 2024 when Peters Township edged Seneca Valley in a penalty shootout after a 0‑0 draw, sealing a 5‑4 victory that underscored the team’s resilience.
Beyond trophies, Vereb’s squads enjoyed a 28‑match unbeaten run against WPIAL competition that spanned the 2024 and 2025 seasons, a testament to the program’s consistency and depth.
Looking Ahead
The school district will begin a search for a successor, aiming to preserve the culture of excellence that Vereb cultivated over nearly two decades. Community members and former players alike have expressed gratitude for his dedication and the pathway he forged for countless young athletes.
Vereb’s departure marks the end of a storied chapter in Pennsylvania high school soccer, but his imprint will linger in the record books and on the fields where his teams once dominated.
