Patechia Hartman Takes the Helm of Walters State Women’s Basketball

Former professional player and Georgia State standout appointed head coach, bringing 12 years of international experience and a championship pedigree

Patechia Hartman has been named the new head coach of the Walters State Women’s Basketball program, taking the reins of a team that has enjoyed a decade of regional dominance.

A Georgia State University alumna, Hartman starred for the Panthers, guiding them to two conference titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances before embarking on a 12‑year professional career that took her to Iceland, Hungary, Taiwan and the Dominican Republic.

Her playing excellence was recognized with a first‑overall selection in the 2011 Women’s Universal Basketball Association draft, where she also earned league MVP honors and a championship‑final MVP.

In 2013 she represented the United States at the William Jones Cup in Taiwan, China, further cementing her international pedigree.

Coaching Journey and Recent Success

Hartman’s coaching résumé includes stints as an assistant at Georgia State and head positions at McDonough High School and Atlanta Metropolitan College, where she honed her leadership style and developed player development strategies.

The Walters State women’s team enters the 2026‑27 season riding the momentum of a 28‑3 record from the previous year and has amassed 13 Region 7 championships since 2012, including a Final Four run in 2015.

Under Hartman’s guidance, the program aims to continue its tradition of excellence, beginning its November schedule with high expectations and a roster eager to build on the foundation she brings.
