Opening Week Honors
The Patriot League revealed its inaugural weekly field hockey awards for the 2026 campaign, recognizing exceptional contributions from across its member schools as the season opened on August 31.
Boston University dominated the recognition slate, securing three of the five weekly player-of-the-week titles. Forward Lucy Johnson, defender Alex Purcell, and rookie Jenna Park each earned league honors for their pivotal roles in early victories.
Player Spotlights
Johnson found the back of the net four times in BU’s opening two matches, a performance that not only powered the Terriers to a 1-1 record but also impressed the league’s coaching panel enough to name her Forward of the Week.
Purcell, meanwhile, dished out three assists, two of which came against the Warriors, earning her the Defender of the Week award for a display that combined offensive flair with solid defensive positioning.
Rookie Jenna Park contributed her first collegiate goal against Merrimack and added an assist in a later game, a combination that secured her Rookie of the Week distinction and highlighted her immediate impact on the Terriers' lineup.
American University’s midfielder Katelyn Dulin forced overtime with a game-tying goal against Cal, a moment that earned her Midfielder of the Week honors despite the team’s 0-2 start.
Lafayette’s goalkeeper Addison Kahn posted a .882 save percentage and made 15 stops, a performance that guided the Leopards to a 1-0 opening record and garnered Goalkeeper of the Week recognition.
Honorable mentions were distributed among Olivia Morraye (American), Sarah Althouse (Bucknell), Katie Gibb (Lafayette), and Gracen Brant (Lehigh), acknowledging additional contributions that shaped the early standings.
The weekly awardees were selected by league head coaches, who excluded considerations of their own teams’ players to ensure an objective evaluation of on-field excellence.
Standings after the first week show Boston University at 1-1, while Lafayette and Lehigh each sit at 1-0, and American remains 0-2, setting the stage for a competitive remainder of the schedule.
