Paul Webb Basketball Camp Marks 61 Years of Building More Than Just Players

Founded in 1965, the Virginia Beach camp continues to shape young athletes under the guidance of Eddie Webb, preserving a basketball tradition that stretches across generations.

A Legacy That Lives On

The Paul Webb Basketball Camp celebrated its 61st summer in Virginia Beach, a milestone that traces back to its founding in 1965 when coach Paul Webb and a colleague from the University of Richmond first opened the doors to a program that would become a cornerstone of the Hampton Roads basketball scene.

Today the camp, directed by Eddie Webb, the late coach’s son, welcomes boys and girls aged six to seventeen, offering drills, games, guest speakers and structured life‑lesson sessions that stress teamwork as much as shooting form. Eddie says the camp’s high retention rate — about three‑quarters of participants return each year — reflects the trust families place in the program.

Mark Butts, a longtime counselor, notes that the camp’s influence extends beyond the hardwood, shaping attitudes and confidence that linger long after the final buzzer. For many, the experience is a direct link to Paul Webb’s philosophy, a legacy that continues to echo through Virginia’s basketball community.

Although Paul Webb passed away in December 2023, his impact remains palpable. Eddie sees keeping the camp alive as the most fitting tribute, a way to honor his father’s vision while giving the next generation a place to grow, compete and learn together.
