The PCM Mustangs baseball program celebrated a milestone this season as the team secured its first appearance in the Class 2A substate championship game, finishing the year with a 19‑9 record that stands as the highest win total for the program since 2013.
District Honors Highlight Pitching and Catching Excellence
Junior right‑hander Roston McCarty anchored the rotation, earning a spot on the 2A Central District’s second team after throwing 65 ⅓ innings with a 7‑3 record, a 1.71 earned run average and a .191 opponent batting average.
McCarty’s workload placed him among the heaviest in the classification; he started nine games, tied for 12th in the district, and his 65 ⅓ innings ranked tied for 10th in wins across Class 2A.
His dominance was reflected in the opposition’s .191 batting rate, a statistic that underscores the stinginess of the Mustangs’ pitching staff.
Catcher Coby DeRaad complemented the mound work with a potent bat, leading the team with a .373 average and a .448 on‑base percentage.
DeRaad finished the season with a .984 fielding percentage, threw out six would‑be basestealers and committed only two errors, while also delivering a team‑high 31 hits, 31 runs, 16 RBIs and nine walks.
The combined contributions helped the Mustangs finish 19‑9, the most victories for the program since 2013, and set the stage for the upcoming substate final.
Both players were recognized on the same all‑district second team, a testament to the balanced strength of the squad and the pivotal roles they played throughout the season.
