The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced sanctions against Pell City High School on Tuesday, imposing a fine and placing the school’s football program on probation after a finding that the program violated state recruiting regulations.
As part of the penalty, the Eagles will be ineligible for the 2026 postseason and head coach Jake Ganus will be barred from the sidelines for the entire 2026‑2027 season.
The association also ruled that any student who breaches the recruiting rule will be permanently barred from participating in athletics at Pell City High School, a measure intended to reinforce compliance across the program.
In addition, the school has been ordered to submit a comprehensive administrative action plan to the AHSAA’s Central Board of Control, outlining steps to prevent future violations and to restore confidence in its recruiting practices.
Games already scheduled against Pell City this season will not be reflected in the Class 5A, Region 5 standings, effectively erasing those results from the official record.
Governance and Oversight
The sanctions underscore the AHSAA’s commitment to enforcing recruiting standards and maintaining competitive integrity across Alabama high school sports. By combining financial penalties, postseason exclusion and coaching suspensions, the association aims to deter infractions and protect the fairness of the classification system.
