A milestone for Pembroke Hill soccer
The Pembroke Hill girls soccer team celebrated its first Missouri State High School Activities Association state championship on Saturday, edging Duchesne 3-1 in the Class 1 title match. The final was played at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, a venue that hosted a full slate of championship contests for the 2026 spring season.
The victory marks a turning point for the program, which had finished as runner‑up a decade earlier. Coach Laura Mitchell praised the team's resilience, noting that the players "never stopped believing" despite early-season setbacks. The win also underscores the growing competitiveness of girls soccer across the Kansas City metro area.
While the Class 1 final drew the spotlight, the same Saturday featured championship matches in the other three divisions. In Class 3, St. Michael the Archangel edged Fort Zumwalt South 2-1 at 1:30 p.m., while Pleasant Hill captured the Class 2 crown with a 4-0 victory over Clayton at 4 p.m. The Class 4 title went to St. Teresa’s Academy, who defeated Cor Jesu Academy 3-2 in a late‑evening showdown at 7 p.m.
A third‑place playoff also took place earlier in the day, with Notre Dame in Cape Girardeau securing a 2-0 win over New Covenant Academy. The series of matches highlighted the depth of talent across Missouri’s high school soccer landscape and provided a festive atmosphere for families, coaches, and alumni alike.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association, which organized the tournament, praised the smooth execution of the event and the sportsmanship displayed by all participants.
