Novak’s production last season — 16 goals, 26 assists and 42 points in 82 games — filled the void created by Evgeni Malkin’s mid-season injury and highlighted his ability to contribute offensively while providing depth.

The extension spans three years with an average annual value of $4.65 million, a figure that positions Novak among the mid-tier forwards in the league and reflects the team’s intent to reward consistent two-way play.
Future Outlook
Coach Dan Muse praised Novak’s defensive reliability and his work away from the puck, noting that the forward’s expanded role after Malkin’s injury earned him increased ice time and responsibility.
Acquired at the 2025 trade deadline from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Michael Bunting, Novak also represented Team USA at the 2026 World Championship, recording seven assists and eight points in eight games.
While his faceoff success rate sat at 42.9% and he has never surpassed 45 points in a single season, the organization views his consistent contributions as a cornerstone for the upcoming years.
