Penguins Secure Lapierre in Draft‑Pick Deal with Capitals

The 24‑year‑old forward joins Pittsburgh after a standout playoff run with the Hershey Bears.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have completed a trade that brings forward Hendrix Lapierre into their roster, sending a 2027 third‑round pick and a 2028 fifth‑round pick to the Washington Capitals.

Playoff pedigree

Lapierre’s breakout performance in the 2024 Calder Cup playoffs saw him tally 22 points, earning the league’s Playoff MVP award and underscoring his ability to elevate his game when it matters most.

Across 158 NHL games with Washington, he has contributed 13 goals, 34 assists and 47 points, while his 113 AHL appearances yield 27 goals, 52 assists and 79 points.

Selected 22nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, Lapierre spent four seasons in the QMJHL before turning professional, amassing 144 points in 128 junior games.

General manager Kyle Dubas described the acquisition as “a perfect fit for our forward group,” citing Lapierre’s relentless work ethic and versatility. Coach Todd Nelson, who mentored him during two consecutive Calder Cup championships, added that “his competitive fire will translate well at the NHL level.”

The deal signals Pittsburgh’s intent to bolster its depth ahead of the upcoming season, positioning Lapierre as a key contributor in the team’s push for a playoff berth.
