Penn State Adds London‑Born Center Tim Oboh as Coach Rhoades Rebuilds Roster

The acquisition of the 6‑11 prospect aims to inject size and experience into the Nittany Lions ahead of Big Ten play.

Rebuilding with Experience

Penn State’s men’s basketball program has taken a decisive step toward reinvigorating its lineup by securing the commitment of Tim Oboh, a 6‑11 center originally from London, England.

Oboh arrives after two seasons at the University of Buffalo, where he averaged 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and earned MVP honors in the Elite Academy Basketball League’s Southern Conference while representing Great Britain on the European stage.

Coach Mike Rhoades, who has been reshaping the roster after nine scholarship players entered the transfer portal, described the addition as a key piece in his plan to field a more seasoned and physically imposing team.

The coaching staff also welcomed point guard Jay Rodgers and shooting guard Brant Byers, both of whom bring proven starting experience from previous programs, to complement Oboh’s interior presence.

Rhoades emphasized that the new class is designed to blend size, skill, and veteran savvy, positioning the Nittany Lions to compete more effectively within the demanding Big Ten conference.

The move reflects a broader strategy that prioritizes continuity and experience over youthful volatility, a philosophy that has guided Rhoades’ recruiting efforts since his arrival in State College.
