A Defensive Anchor Emerges
Penn State is gearing up for the 2026 college football season under new head coach Matt Campbell, who inherited a program eager for a fresh direction. The Nittany Lions have undertaken a sweeping roster overhaul, bringing in more than 50 new players to reshape the depth chart and inject new energy across the squad.
Among the most anticipated of these newcomers is sophomore defensive end Yvan Kemajou. After graduating from Paint Branch High School in Maryland, Kemajou enrolled at Penn State in January 2025 and quickly made an impression during winter workouts and spring practices.
Kemajou’s freshman year saw him appear in 11 games, recording five tackles for loss and earning fourth‑place honors among the team’s defensive statistics. A mid‑October coaching change gave him increased playing time, and he averaged 26 snaps per game, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses.
Coaches have praised his work ethic, tenacity, and potential, drawing comparisons to Laiatu Latu, the 2023 unanimous All‑American and Pac‑12 Defensive Player of the Year. The staff projects Kemajou to start the upcoming season opposite senior transfer Ike Ezeogu, forming a promising tandem on the defensive line.
Reflecting on his goals, Kemajou says he plans to focus on getting stronger, faster, and better prepared for summer camp. His ambition mirrors a broader belief within the program that this class of newcomers can become the foundation of a competitive defense.
