Spring Development Highlights
Penn State has refreshed its online roster to mirror the physical transformations players have undergone during spring practice, offering a snapshot of the team’s progress heading into the 2026 campaign.
The revisions come as the Nittany Lions’ strength and conditioning unit, overseen by director Reid Kagy, has been credited with driving noticeable gains across the squad.
Kagy’s staff, which includes Aaron Hillmann, Brandon Pietrzyk, Shawn Facione, Lucas White, Jalyn Baker, Ben Moortgat and Jonnee Sulzberger, brings a blend of experience from previous programs, with Facione having arrived from LSU earlier in the year and Solomon’s recent stint at Texas adding depth.
The upcoming season will open on September 5, 2026, when Penn State hosts Marshall at Beaver Stadium, a matchup that will serve as the first test of the revamped roster.
Among the players, quarterback Alex Manske entered the program at 225 pounds in January and is working to regain full health after a lingering issue, while running back Quinton Martin Jr. has settled into the mid‑210s after daily weight fluctuations.
Tight end Andrew Rappleyea experienced the most pronounced weight loss but missed spring activities while recovering from a postseason procedure, whereas offensive lineman Garrett Sexton’s recent size increase has sparked speculation about his potential role this fall.
Defensive end Mason Robinson will miss his redshirt junior season due to injury, and defensive tackle Liam Andrews is transitioning to defensive end, a move reflected in his altered weight.
Linebacker Cam Smith, listed at 6‑foot, stands out as a smaller presence in a typically larger room, while cornerback Max Heffner spent time with the wide receivers during the recent Blue‑White practice.
Safety Bryson Williams and Christian Askew are trending upward in weight and, at 6‑foot‑4, possess ample room to add mass as they continue to develop.
