Penn State is gearing up for a 2026 season that will look markedly different from the one that concluded just a year earlier. Under new head coach Matt Campbell, the program has embraced a wave of transfers and recruits, reshaping the depth chart across the board.
A standout in the trenches
Among the newcomers is offensive lineman Malachi Goodman, a redshirt freshman from Bloomfield, New Jersey, who arrived on campus with a reputation as one of the nation’s top five high school tackles.
Goodman’s high school career was marked by dual‑sport excellence. He earned a silver medal in shot put, captured the attention of the Navy All‑American Bowl, and held offers from powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, USC and Illinois before electing to join the Nittany Lions.
Since enrolling, Goodman has added roughly ten pounds to his frame and has been working closely with the strength staff to translate that growth into on‑field readiness. Coaches have praised his development during the spring, noting that he is now positioned to compete for a starting role at left tackle.
Looking ahead
If Goodman can translate his spring progress into fall performance, he could become a cornerstone of an offensive line that is still being assembled. His blend of size, athleticism and prior high‑level competition makes him a focal point of the team’s plans as the roster continues to evolve under Campbell’s direction.
