High school football is more than a game in Pennsylvania; it’s a ritual that unites towns, fuels local pride, and turns Friday nights into a shared celebration. This summer, the excitement has taken a digital turn as enthusiasts across the Commonwealth are voting for the best high school football stadiums, a list that includes J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Wolvarena in Woodland Hills, Heinz Field in Aliquippa, James Weir Stadium in Belle Vernon and the black‑turfed field at Lake‑Lehman High School.
Stadiums That Stand Out
J. Birney Crum Stadium boasts the largest capacity in the state, seating 15,000 fans, while Wolvarena has earned accolades from USA Today, ESPN and MaxPreps for its design and atmosphere. Heinz Field, affectionately called “The Pit,” blends a 1930s heritage with a 2023 renovation, and James Weir Stadium dazzles with gold‑colored turf and a lifeguard chair perched in the end zone.
The competition will close on Monday, July 6, at noon, with the top ten venues set to be announced on Wednesday, July 8, giving the winning schools a coveted spot in the state’s football lore.
