Petar Aleksić’s name now appears on the Ole Miss men’s basketball coaching roster, marking the latest chapter in a career that has taken him from the courts of Serbia to the sidelines of Swiss powerhouses and back across Europe. With almost 35 years of experience as both a player and a coach, Aleksić brings a depth of knowledge that few can match, especially in developing talent and navigating high‑pressure environments.
Aleksić’s professional path reads like a globe‑trotting saga. He spent a decade at the helm of Fribourg Olympic in Switzerland, guiding the team to a Basketball Champions League berth in 2019 and earning Swiss Coach of the Year honors seven times. Earlier, he led ALBA Berlin to a German Basketball Bundesliga championship in 2008 and steered Eurotech Baskets Feldkirch to an Austrian Second Division title in 2005. His early years as a player, a 17‑year pro stint across European leagues, gave him a player‑centric perspective that continues to inform his coaching philosophy.
Beyond club success, Aleksić’s international résumé includes head‑coaching stints in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Serbia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a notable tenure with Al Wahda in the West Asia Super League. He famously coached the 2015 Swiss National Team to a historic upset over Russia, a moment that cemented his reputation as a tactician capable of delivering surprise victories on the biggest stages.
