A Legend's Perspective
Pete Lisicky’s name still resonates through the rafters of the Bryce Jordan Center, where his record‑setting shooting percentages and scoring totals have become part of Penn State lore.
From 1994 to 1998 he helped the Nittany Lions achieve milestones that still stand, including a No. 1 ranking in 3‑point shooting percentage at 40 % and a true shooting percentage of 59 %, as well as a No. 7 spot on the all‑time scoring list with 1,605 points.
Lisicky’s collegiate highlights also include All‑Big Ten honors in 1996, 1997 and 1998, an Associated Press Honorable Mention nod in 1996, and a memorable run to the NIT Final Four under coach Bruce Parkhill, followed by a historic NIT championship game appearance in his senior season.
After college he embarked on an 11‑year professional career across Europe, playing in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France and Poland, where he praised the quality of play and officiating in Italy and even noted the country’s cuisine as a highlight.
Now based in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his wife Kristin and their three children, Lisicky works as a certified financial planner, yet he remains deeply engaged with the Penn State community, urging current players to “Make it yours” and to build their own traditions.
He recently spoke about the seismic shift in college basketball brought by the NIL era, describing the landscape as “haywire” and expressing concern that Penn State and other schools can be out‑bid by programs with deeper pockets.
While acknowledging the difficulties, Lisicky believes the university is taking the right steps by recruiting the right talent and staying true to its identity.
The Road Ahead
Looking forward, Lisicky hopes the NCAA will tighten oversight of the NIL process, creating clearer rules that preserve competitive balance while allowing student‑athletes to benefit from their own brands.
