Pete Nochta was named the general manager for Kentucky football on Wednesday, inheriting a role that will shape the Wildcats’ personnel strategy and roster construction after Pat Biondo’s sudden resignation.

Will Stein, the head coach, said he is confident that Nochta’s deep familiarity with the program and his extensive network will accelerate the team’s push toward championship contention.
J Batt, CEO of Champions Blue and UK Athletics Director, praised Nochta’s decade of service, noting his pivotal role in recruiting standout talents such as Mekhi Becton and Tutu Atwell.
Nochta, a Lexington native and Tates Creek High School graduate, brings both playing experience as a tight end at Louisville from 2006 to 2010 and a decade of administrative work, most recently as assistant general manager since January.
His father, John Nochta, lettered for the Wildcats in the early 1970s and later coached local high school football, underscoring a family legacy intertwined with the university.
In his new capacity, Nochta will oversee personnel operations, player evaluation, recruiting strategy and roster management, tasks he says are aimed at building a championship‑caliber program.
The promotion reflects the program’s ambition to leverage Nochta’s recruiting acumen and his proven ability to connect with players, a factor that resonates throughout college football.
