Rover Group, Inc., the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care, has released a fresh data set that sheds light on how pet owners are weaving their furry companions into the fabric of summer soccer tournaments.
According to the company’s survey, 69 percent of pet parents said they intend to watch the upcoming summer matches together with their pets, while 70 percent have already tweaked their plans to make sure their animals are comfortable and safe.
The same research indicates that 73 percent of respondents feel their pets play a noticeable role during big sporting events, and a striking 82 percent admit that their pets influence whether they decide to attend a match in person.
Pet Names Inspired by Soccer Icons
The most popular soccer‑inspired pet names emerging from the study are Pele, Ronaldo and Salah, reflecting a growing trend of honoring icons on four paws.
67 percent of participants reported feeling anxiety when they have to leave their pet behind to go to an event, and 45 percent said their pet’s daily routine is noticeably disrupted during peak sports seasons.
Nicole Ellis, a pet‑care expert who collaborated with Rover on the study, highlighted that the findings underscore a shifting dynamic where pets are no longer just spectators but active participants in the fan experience.
Rover’s chief marketing officer, speaking on the back of the results, said the company is eager to support pet‑friendly viewing parties and to provide resources that help owners keep their companions safe while cheering on their favorite teams.
The company, headquartered in Seattle, Washington, continues to expand its global footprint, offering services across the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, Poland, and Australia.
As the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care, Rover remains committed to connecting pet parents with trusted sitters, walkers, and boarding facilities, ensuring that the bond between pets and their owners stays strong even during the busiest sporting calendars.
