Phillips Community College Golf Scramble Fundraiser Supports Ridge Runner Basketball

Annual event at Helena Country Club aims to boost student‑athlete opportunities and program growth

Fundraiser Brings Together Fans, Alumni, and Local Businesses

On the morning of May 16, the Helena Country Club will open its greens to participants for the Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas Ridge Runner Basketball program’s annual golf scramble. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with the tournament teeing off at noon, offering players and supporters a chance to enjoy a day of fellowship on one of the region’s premier courses.

All proceeds from entry fees and sponsorships are directed toward the college’s basketball program and the student‑athletes who comprise it. Athletic Director Andrew Bagley emphasized that the event not only raises vital funds but also celebrates the community’s role in sustaining the program’s recent successes.

Since the team’s revival two years ago, the men’s squad has posted a 22‑win season and reached the regional semifinals, while the women’s team earned a notable upset in the opening round of the same tournament. Several players have also secured opportunities to continue their careers at four‑year institutions, underscoring the program’s growing impact.

Local partners are stepping up to enhance the experience. Partners Bank is providing barbecue fare for participants, and hole sponsorships are available for $350 each, giving businesses a visible presence throughout the day. Registration is priced at $75 per individual or $300 per team, with sponsorships accepted through Thursday to allow time for signage preparation.
