PhyNique Allen has been promoted to associate head coach of the UC San Diego women's basketball program for the 2026‑27 season, a testament to her six‑year tenure that has reshaped the team's identity. Her elevation comes as the program enjoys its most successful stretch in recent memory, marked by consecutive Big West Championship victories and a share of the regular‑season title in 2025‑26.
During her time in La Jolla, Allen has served as the offensive coordinator while also playing a pivotal role in recruiting. She has helped 18 Tritons earn All‑Big West honors and brought in standout talent such as 2024‑25 Newcomer of the Year Sabrina Ma and Freshman of the Year Sumayah Sugapong. Her ability to blend strategic play‑calling with talent acquisition has turned the roster into a perennial contender.
Building a Winning Culture
The on‑court results speak for themselves. In the 2025‑26 campaign the Tritons ranked third nationally in scoring with 70.2 points per game and second in total assists with 465. Four players finished among the conference’s top 20 scorers, led by Erin Condron’s 15.6 points per game. Dymonique Maxie dominated the league in assists, setting a Division I program record with 145 assists and averaging 4.4 per game.
Allen’s influence extends beyond statistics. Her recruits have consistently delivered clutch performances, and the team’s chemistry has been evident in its ability to share the ball and execute complex offensive sets. Education and Early Roots
A native of California, Allen graduated from Cal State Bakersfield before earning a master’s degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco. She honed her basketball skills at Serra High School, where she was named Eastern League MVP as a senior. Her academic background and playing experience have provided a strong foundation for her coaching philosophy and player development approach.
