Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, a 41-year-old veteran who has skated in more than 700 NHL games, has announced his move to the Tampa Bay Lightning as a player development specialist. His career includes 237 appearances with the Philadelphia Flyers after signing as an undrafted free agent at age 29, 153 games with the Lightning, 148 with the Vegas Golden Knights, 40 with the Seattle Kraken and 122 with the Colorado Avalanche.
A New Chapter in Tampa
During two seasons in Colorado he posted the best statistical output of his career, scoring 18 goals — more than he ever managed with any other team. Internationally, Bellemare captained France at the 2026 Winter Olympics, an experience that preceded his decision to retire from playing.
Bellemare is expected to make his home in Tampa, where he will contribute to a newly designed, quicker training camp aimed at accelerating player readiness for the rigors of an NHL season. The Lightning view his arrival as a strategic infusion of on‑ice insight and leadership as they look to remain contenders for the Stanley Cup.
His transition from a journeyman forward to a development role underscores a growing trend of former players leveraging deep professional experience to shape the next generation of talent within NHL organizations.
