A New Era at Selhurst Park
Pierre Sage has signed a three‑year contract to become the new manager of Crystal Palace, bringing a French managerial pedigree to the club’s south‑London base. The 47‑year‑old’s appointment marks a decisive shift in the club’s strategic direction as it aims to consolidate its Premier League status and push for European competition.
Sage’s most recent achievement came at RC Lens, where he led the team to a second‑place finish in Ligue 1 and secured the Coupe de France with a victory over Nice. His success in France has been widely praised for combining tactical discipline with an attractive style of play.
The French coach has long expressed admiration for English football and described the opportunity to work in the Premier League as a lifelong dream. He is set to begin his duties at Selhurst Park on July 6, a timeline that aligns with the club’s pre‑season preparations.
A supportive staff joins the Frenchman
Joining Sage will be his former assistant at Lens, Jamal Alioui, who will bring a familiar link to the new environment. Meanwhile, existing coaches Paddy McCarthy and Andy Quy have opted to remain with the club, providing continuity and institutional knowledge during the transition.
Sage’s career has been marked by a variety of roles before his senior managerial debut at Lyon, where he served as sports coordinator, technical director, scout and youth coach. His only previous senior managerial experience came with Lyon, a stint that lasted from January 2024 to January 2025.
The appointment comes as Crystal Palace looks to build on recent progress and challenge for a European spot. Club officials are confident that Sage’s tactical acumen and French flair will add a new dimension to the squad, while the retained coaching staff will help embed the new philosophy within the existing framework.
