This summer the Westfield Starfires will showcase a unique storyline as two brothers, Thomas and Nate Pirog, share a pitching staff in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England. Their reunion brings together a high‑velocity arm and a determined comeback narrative, promising exciting performances for fans across the league.
A Brotherly Reunion in the Futures League
Thomas Pirog arrives as a standout pitcher capable of hitting 92 miles per hour with his fastball. His recent all‑star selection reflects a season in which he posted a 2.39 earned run average and struck out 30 batters over 26⅓ innings. The performance has cemented his reputation as one of the league’s most electrifying arms.
Nate Pirog, meanwhile, is navigating a comeback from a serious back injury that sidelined him during the 2026 college season. Despite a 6.48 ERA and allowing six earned runs in just 8⅓ innings, his perseverance is evident. His best weapon, a sharp changeup, complements a work ethic that earned him a spot on the Dean’s List with a perfect 4.0 GPA at Keene State College.
The brothers’ connection extends beyond the mound. They have been teammates since childhood, progressing through Little League, travel squads, and high school competition. Their shared journey now continues as Thomas transferred from the University of Southern Maine to Keene State College, joining Nate ahead of the fall semester. Both will don the Owls’ colors together, blending their talents on the collegiate stage.
Family legacy adds another layer to the story. Their grandfather, Phil Pirog, is celebrated in the Bristol Sports and Connecticut High School Coaches Association halls of fame, underscoring a deep-rooted baseball heritage. The youngest sibling, Jake Pirog, is slated to begin his freshman year at Bristol Central High School, hinting at a new generation of talent ready to follow in his brothers’ footsteps.
