A Season Defined by Excellence
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) has released its All‑Central Region selections, honoring a quartet of Pittsburg State Gorillas for their standout performances this season.
Dagen Brewer, the senior standout, captured the prestigious Central Region Player of the Year award after batting .442 with 87 runs scored, 24 doubles, 25 home runs and 107 RBI across 56 games. His triple‑crown dominance in the MIAA placed him among the nation’s most prolific hitters.
The Gorillas closed the campaign with a school‑record 45‑11 overall mark, capturing both the MIAA Regular Season title and the conference tournament championship. Their run culminated in a trip to the NCAA Division II Central Region Final, where they fell to Augustana University.
Joining Brewer on the first team were Isaac Webb and Grant Nottlemann, while Eric Bacon earned a second‑team nod. Webb posted a .379/.464/.689 slash line, scoring 66 runs and driving in 81, while Nottlemann hit .376 with 58 runs and 55 RBI. Bacon contributed a .404 average, 87 runs and a school‑record 95 hits.
Coach Jim Van Horne praised the collective effort, noting that the team’s depth and execution reflected a program that has rapidly risen to national prominence. The recognitions also highlighted the influence of the America Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America in shaping postseason accolades.
