Their victory over Bethel, Connecticut, was anchored by a dominant pitching performance; Jack Wendling and Matt Keegan combined to blank the opposition, while the lineup generated 12 hits, five of them doubles, with contributions from Noah Masselli, Aiden Arseneau, Noah Malone and Wendling himself.
The team had opened the weekend with a defeat to Warwick, Rhode Island, but rallied decisively, turning the loss into a springboard for the win that secured their spot in the next round.
In contrast, the Pittsfield 13‑year‑old team struggled, dropping all three of its pool games and exiting the bracket stage despite a 13‑hit effort in their final contest, which was marred by seven errors and 14 runs allowed.
Coach Jake Knauth and the rest of the coaching staff now await Monday’s matchup, hoping the momentum from the 16s’ pitching excellence can translate into a deeper run for the organization.
