Playoff Action Across Central Section Sports

Redwood and Tulare Western advance as track teams claim championships

The 2025‑26 Central Section high school sports season is underway, and the playoff picture is already taking shape across baseball, softball, swimming and track and field.

Redwood’s baseball squad opened its Division I road series with a 7‑1 victory over Clovis, a performance that sets up a May 19 quarterfinal clash at home against No. 14 Centennial.

In Division II, Tulare Western pulled off a 9‑2 upset of San Luis Obispo and will host Hanford in its own quarterfinal on the same date.

The Redwood softball team continued its dominant stretch, beating Paso Robles 10‑0 in six innings via the mercy rule. Emily Webster contributed a home run, two hits, four RBIs and a run, while pitcher Jackie Ramirez delivered a complete game with 12 strikeouts.

Dinuba edged Mission Oak 11‑10 in the West Yosemite League finale, with Ethyn Lizaola going 3‑for‑4 and driving in three runs.

Swimmer Caiden LaPoint shattered school records in the 100‑yard freestyle and 100‑yard backstroke, underscoring the depth of talent across the section.

Redwood also captured both the boys’ and girls’ team titles in track and field, scoring 214.5 points on the boys’ side and 169 points on the girls’ side to finish atop the competition.

Quarterfinal Outlook

With several teams poised for deeper runs, the upcoming matchups promise more excitement as Redwood prepares to host Centennial and Tulare Western welcomes Hanford, while the swim and track athletes continue to set new standards.
