Key pitching duels and offensive bursts shape second-round baseball results

The second round of the baseball playoffs delivered a slate of dramatic contests across the region, with several teams advancing after tightly contested victories.

Redwood opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning and never looked back, eventually securing a 7-1 win over Petaluma; the performance was anchored by a complete-game shutout from Jack Moseley, a Santa Clara commit.

Montgomery, after falling behind early, rallied out of an early hole to post a 14-4 triumph over Branson, plating nine runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

Sonoma Valley continued its surprising run, blanking Healdsburg 4-0 behind a dominant outing from Max Trexler, who allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out five.

College Prep surged ahead early, leading 5-1 after three innings before exploding for five more runs in the top of the fourth to finish off a 14-1 victory over Rio Lindo Adventist.

Ukiah started strong, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first and building a 7-2 edge through three innings, only to watch James Logan erase the deficit with an eight-run rally highlighted by a six-run fifth inning.

George Gibbs was among the offensive leaders for Ukiah, driving in two runs, while James Logan’s comeback was fueled by a burst of power hitting in the decisive fifth.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent edged St. Helena 5-4 in a back-and-forth battle where both teams scored all their runs in the third inning; Tyler Agapoff contributed two hits and an RBI, and Charlie Blaum added a double and a run.

Standout Performances

Key players shone throughout the day; Salvador Pedroza collected two hits with an RBI for Montgomery, while Adam Cramer went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.

Colin Buckley and Cayden Waldrop each added multiple hits and RBIs for College Prep, and Vincent Prosser contributed a solid defensive effort for Branson.

The tournament also highlighted emerging talent from across the county, with players like Ben Vollmer, Dominic Fontana, Beau David, Ivan Castro, Ollie Adams, Benny Olivarez, Chris Murphy, Adam Herdell, Julian Earls, Kai Blasingame, Cole Joy and Huck Anderson making notable contributions.

With several teams now poised for the section semifinals, the stage is set for further excitement as the playoffs progress toward their final chapters.
