A Community‑Driven Push for Soccer Access
Plei, the fast‑growing platform that connects pickup soccer players, has announced the launch of its “2026 for $6” movement, a bold effort to bring the sport to more people across North America by offering thousands of games at a flat rate of six dollars.
The initiative partners with a network of local fields and recreation centers in cities such as Atlanta, Houston, New York, Kansas City, Miami and Seattle, as well as in Snohomish County, Washington, to secure affordable access to outdoor pitches. Organizers say the program already counts nearly six hundred thousand active players in thirty‑eight regions who rely on Plei to find games and build community ties.
Sebastian Duque, Plei’s co‑founder and chief executive, says the goal is simple: remove the financial and logistical hurdles that keep many would‑be players off the field. “We want soccer to be as easy to play as it is to watch,” he explained, emphasizing that the movement also taps into the broader “Summer of Soccer” campaign that is energizing neighborhoods nationwide.
Beyond discounted matches, the effort includes community events, digital outreach and collaborations with Fortune 500 companies and leading soccer brands, all aimed at celebrating grassroots soccer culture. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association has highlighted the program as a model for expanding participation in a sport that reached 16.8 million outdoor players in the United States last year.
By lowering cost barriers and linking players to local facilities, Plei hopes the “2026 for $6” model can be replicated in other markets, fostering inclusive soccer ecosystems that encourage health, social connection and lifelong enjoyment of the game.
