Jakub Urbaniak Joins the Cougars
Polish forward Jakub Urbaniak, a 23‑year‑old who has been a fixture in the Polish Basketball League since the 2022‑23 season, announced his commitment to Brigham Young University on Thursday. The move marks the latest step in a transatlantic career that has already seen him share the court with senior members of Poland’s national team.
During his most recent campaign with Slask Wroclaw, Urbaniak posted averages of 8.9 points and 5.7 rebounds across 55 appearances. His contributions extended to the Eurocup, where he contributed 7.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, underscoring a versatility that attracted attention from several programs.
A Competitive Post Position
BYU enters the upcoming season with two open scholarship slots, and Urbaniak is slated to battle for the starting center role. Coach Rob Wright III has indicated that the player’s size, work ethic and experience against top European competition make him a prime candidate for the post.
