Case Cox, the Polson Pirate quarterback, is spearheading the second annual More Than a Game Football Camp, scheduled for June 29 and 30 at the Polson Sports Complex. The event, which blends skill development with community outreach, offers separate sessions for children in grades three through eight and for high school players.
This year’s camp will feature instruction from a pair of seasoned coaches: Jim McElwain, a former head coach at the University of Florida and the University of Wyoming, and Russell McCarvel, who brings extensive experience at the collegiate level. Their involvement underscores the camp’s ambition to provide high‑quality training while drawing attention to a local cause.
All proceeds from registration fees will be donated to Lake County CASA, a nonprofit that advocates for children and families through legal representation, parenting classes and supervised parenting time. Last year’s edition raised $7,300 for the organization, and Cox hopes to exceed that total with increased participation.
The camp’s $50 fee covers instruction, drills and a chance to interact with the coaches, and registration is open online at morethanagamefootball.com. Organizers emphasize that the event is as much about building a love for the sport as it is about supporting families in need across Lake County.
Community Impact and Future Plans
Beyond the fundraising goal, the camp seeks to broaden access to football in a region where resources can be limited. By partnering with local schools and youth programs, the organizers hope to inspire the next generation of players while reinforcing the values of teamwork and service.
Cox, who grew up playing in the same fields he now coaches, says the response from families has been encouraging. He notes that the combination of elite coaching and a charitable mission creates a unique platform that benefits both athletes and the broader community.
