Porsha Graves Takes the Helm of Bluefield State Women’s Basketball

A seasoned recruiter and developer aims to build structure and accountability

A New Era for Bluefield State Women's Basketball

Porsha Graves has been appointed as the new head coach of the women's basketball program at Bluefield State University, taking over a team that has shown steady growth in recent seasons.

A Proven Recruiter and Developer

Graves brings a proven track record in recruiting, player development and cultivating winning cultures, having guided teams to multiple championships and produced All‑Conference talent.

Her coaching journey began at Hugh M. Cummings High School, where she led the program to a second‑round playoff appearance in 2012, before a ten‑year stint at The Burlington School in North Carolina that featured Final Four runs, conference titles and two NCISAA state championships.

Prior to joining Bluefield State, she served as an assistant at Greensboro College, overseeing recruiting, academic monitoring and scouting.

In her first season at The Burlington School with only six players, she guided the team to a state runner‑up finish, underscoring her ability to maximize limited resources.

Speaking about her vision, Graves emphasized structure, accountability and purpose, stating she wants to develop student‑athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom.

A native of North Carolina, Graves earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and previously competed in basketball, volleyball and softball at the collegiate level.
