Port Angeles Secures Dominant Shutout
The Port Angeles baseball squad rolled past Bremerton 5-0 in a district playoff showdown, extending their winning streak to six games. The Roughriders have now posted four shutouts in their last six outings, a testament to a pitching staff that has become increasingly difficult to crack.
Kody Williams delivered six strong innings, surrendering just three hits while striking out eight batters. Parker Pavlak closed out the ninth, walking one and allowing no hits. Coach Wyatt Hall praised the arms for making the job easier on the offense, noting that the defense behind them was equally sharp.
Carson Waddell threw out a baserunner at second, and catcher Waddell went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Ethan Swenson added a hit, a run scored and two thefts, while the team stole seven bases overall. Zach DeBray and Bryce DeLeon executed perfect bunts, and Carston Seibel delivered a two-run single that capped the offense.
Sequim Advances in Thrilling 4-3 Victory
Across the county, the Sequim baseball team edged Franklin Pierce 4-3 in a District 3 2A tournament clash that swung back and forth until the final innings. Zeke Schmadeke and Devyn Dearinger combined to hold the Cardinals to a single hit, with Schmadeke working five frames that included five walks but only one earned run.
Schmadeke finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base, while William Kuperus contributed a hit, a run, an RBI and a steal. Lincoln Bear doubled and drew two walks, and Easton Fisher launched a triple to the right‑center fence that sparked the crowd.
If Sequim defeats Bainbridge in their next matchup, they will secure a spot in the district semifinals. A loss would drop them to the consolation bracket, but the team remains focused on extending their season.
