A bold vision for Portland’s waterfront
Portland Hearts of Pine has unveiled a plan to build a $50 million soccer stadium on the city’s waterfront at Cassidy Point, a site that would accommodate up to 11,000 fans and serve both the men’s and women’s professional teams.
The proposal calls for a privately funded facility that would rank among the largest soccer-specific venues in the region, offering a modern fan experience while supporting the growth of the sport across Maine.
If the concept moves forward, groundbreaking could begin as early as next year, with construction targeted for completion in early 2029. The timeline, however, remains contingent on securing necessary environmental reviews, zoning permits and city approvals.
City officials have indicated that the project will require a thorough review process to ensure compliance with local regulations and environmental standards before any demolition or construction can commence.
