The Portland Pilots men’s soccer program has been thrust into the national spotlight after TopDrawerSoccer placed its latest recruiting class fourth overall in the country, a placement that underscores the program’s rising momentum.
A Recruiting Class Poised for Impact
Headlining the class are eight signees whose résumés blend high‑school accolades, collegiate experience and professional prospects, each bringing a distinct skill set that could reshape the team’s dynamics.
Among them, Isaac Emojong arrives after a standout season at Utah Valley, where he recorded six goals and two assists before being selected in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft by DC United. Olayinka Ogunleye, a former Louisville standout ranked 89th in the Midseason Top 100, adds physicality and pace, while Oskar Kaufmann, who posted 11 goals for USC Upstate and ranked 19th nationally, brings a proven scoring touch.
The group also features Dominic Berrios, a freshman who earned All‑WCC honors, and Denzel Akriyem, who started every match for Tyler Junior College in 2025, as well as Justin Nelson, who led Rollins College to the Division Final with ten goals and five assists.
Veteran talent includes Javier Hernandez, the 2023‑24 Gatorade California Boys Soccer Player of the Year who previously starred for the North Carolina Tar Heels, and Nick Bishop, a highly touted goalkeeper who honed his craft with St. Louis City 2 in MLS NextPro.
Beyond individual accolades, the Pilots compiled a 14‑2‑4 record, their best winning percentage since 1988, and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the second time under head coach Carlin‑Voigt. The squad has also been ranked in the top ten nationally since September 9, reflecting a sustained period of excellence.
