Portsmouth High School’s baseball squad captured a decisive 5-2 victory over Salem, a win that clinched the team’s spot in the Division I playoffs.
The triumph marks a remarkable turnaround for a team that began the season with a rocky start, ultimately finishing with six wins in their last ten outings and featuring eleven first-year varsity players.
A Young Team’s Playoff Push
Sophomore pitcher Jake Poulin delivered four scoreless innings in relief and added an RBI single at the plate, underscoring his dual impact on the game.
Freshman Blaze Bocash contributed two hits and two RBIs, including a run that scored on a Salem error in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
Head coach Tim Hopley praised the squad’s effort and dedication, noting that the young roster’s perseverance made the playoff berth especially noteworthy, and the team is set to face its first-round matchup on June 3.
