Preston Mozer crowned Fort Collins-area Boys Athlete of the Year
Preston Mozer, a sophomore from Fort Collins, has been crowned the Blue Federal Credit Union Fort Collins‑area Boys Athlete of the Year for the 2025‑26 season, a distinction that highlights his extraordinary contributions on both the gridiron and the track.
On the football field he amassed 31 receptions for 553 yards and five touchdowns, helping the team to a 9‑3 record and a hard‑fought Class 5A playoff victory — the program’s best campaign in more than a decade.
A season that set new standards
His track career was equally impressive; he anchored the 4×200‑meter relay that shattered the Colorado state record with a time of 1:24.57, while individually finishing second in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200‑meter dash at the state meet.
The honor came after a rigorous four‑round voting process, in which Mozer secured 86.3 % of the tally, edging out competitor Cadel Ruthven and reflecting the broad support he enjoys across the local sports community.
Beyond his personal achievements, Mozer’s older brother Marcus, a record‑setting former football and track star, provides a familial legacy that adds depth to his already burgeoning narrative.
The community’s reaction has been enthusiastic, with coaches, teammates and fans alike celebrating a young athlete who is already being viewed as a cornerstone for future successes.
Looking ahead, Mozer is poised to build on this momentum, with college recruiters already taking note of a skill set that spans both football and track, promising a bright trajectory for the Fort Collins sports scene.
