Princeton University has announced that senior forward Liam Beckwith and senior defender Andrew Samuels will serve as captains of the men’s soccer team for the upcoming 2026 season.
Their appointment comes on the heels of a historic 2025 campaign in which the Tigers went unbeaten in Ivy League play, capturing both the regular‑season title and the Ivy League Tournament championship.
The team’s remarkable run was underscored by a third‑seed placement in the NCAA tournament that November, the highest seeding ever achieved by an Ivy League side, and a run that culminated in a decisive victory in the tournament final.
Leadership poised to shape the future
Andrew Samuels, who earned the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year honor, finished the season with a goals‑against average of 0.37 — second best in program history — and set a new single‑season record with 12 shutouts.
Liam Beckwith, meanwhile, started every one of the Tigers’ 19 games, contributing two goals and five assists while earning a spot on the Ivy League All‑Tournament team for his performances in the championship match.
Both players have voiced their excitement about the leadership role, pledging to leverage their experience and chemistry to drive the program forward and maintain the momentum built over the past two seasons.
