Weekly Awards Highlight Privateers’ Dual Excellence
The New Orleans Privateers have once again dominated the Southland Conference’s weekly awards, capturing both the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors. Kruise Newman was recognized as Hitter of the Week, while Luke Lycette earned the same distinction on the mound.
Newman’s late‑season surge was on full display, as he rattled off a 10‑game hitting streak that included three homers in the final week and nine runs batted in. His 14 home runs, 48 RBI and .560 slugging percentage placed him among the conference’s top eight hitters, and his 43 runs scored ranked ninth overall.
Lycette turned in a complete‑game effort that marked the first nine‑inning outing by a Privateer pitcher since 2023. He limited Texas A&M‑Corpus Christi to two unearned runs on five hits in a 9‑2 victory, and his five wins and three saves tied him for seventh across the league.
The double‑award sweep represents the first time the Privateers have taken both weekly conference prizes since the final week of 2023, underscoring the team’s resurgence and consistency.
Both Newman and Lycette have now been honored twice this season, a testament to their sustained impact and the Privateers’ growing presence in Southland baseball.
