A new era for women’s hockey
The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced that it will field two new franchises for the 2026‑27 season, one in Las Vegas and another in Hamilton, Ontario. The expansion brings the league’s total to twelve teams and marks a significant step in its ambition to become a premier destination for elite female talent.
Las Vegas will field a team that adopts a green and gold palette inspired by the desert landscape of Southern Nevada. The club will call the T‑Mobile Arena home, sharing the venue with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, a franchise that captured the Stanley Cup in 2023 during its sixth season.
Hamilton’s historic arena and distinctive colors
Across the border, the Hamilton franchise will wear a combination of gold, maroon and cream, echoing the city’s industrial heritage and sporting tradition. Its home will be the TD Coliseum, a venue with a long history of hosting major sporting events.
Both cities were selected after a thorough evaluation of local support for women’s hockey and the potential for growth. Hamilton’s strong grassroots participation in girls’ and women’s programs was a decisive factor, while Las Vegas was chosen for its rapid emergence as a sports hub and its proven appetite for high‑profile competitions.
The league currently operates teams in Boston, Minnesota, Montréal, New York, Ottawa, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver. In addition to the new Las Vegas and Hamilton clubs, Detroit will join the roster for the 2026‑27 season, further diversifying the geographic footprint of the PWHL.

The expansion reflects a broader momentum in professional women’s sports, as sponsors, broadcasters and fans increasingly recognize the quality of play and the marketability of female athletes.
