Community Collaboration Drives Youth Engagement
On July 17, the Providence men’s and women’s basketball teams partnered with the Providence Recreation Department to run a free youth basketball clinic at Fargnoli Park.
The clinic took place on the park’s basketball courts and welcomed more than 200 boys and girls, who were guided through a series of drills designed to sharpen dribbling, passing and shooting skills.
Amica Mutual Insurance and Coca‑Cola Beverages Northeast provided financial and beverage support, illustrating how local businesses can help launch community‑focused programs.
Throughout the morning, Friar players not only demonstrated techniques but also spoke about the value of staying physically active and making smart life choices, linking sports to broader personal development.
Participants left the session with new skills, a deeper appreciation for teamwork, and a sense of connection to the university’s athletic community, underscoring the event’s impact beyond the court.
