A Deal That Signals Confidence
Purdue University announced Tuesday that general manager Brandon Lee will remain with the football program through the 2027 season, a move that nearly doubles his compensation.
Under the new agreement, Lee’s base salary will climb to $360,000 in 2026 and $370,000 in 2025, up from the $200,000 annual rate that was set to expire at the end of 2026.
The contract also introduces performance‑based bonuses tied to the Boilermakers’ recruiting class rankings and includes provisions for additional staffing within the front office.
Lee, who joined Purdue in December 2023 after a stint as associate athletic director for student‑athlete brand strategy and innovation at Mississippi State, now oversees a significant portion of revenue‑share contract negotiations that were previously delegated by head coach Barry Odom.
His influence is evident in the recent transfer portal activity, where Purdue secured 32 player transfers after the previous season, a list that On3/Rivals ranked 24th nationally and third in the Big Ten.
To support Lee’s expanded responsibilities, the university rehired Jason Simmons as his assistant general manager, reinforcing the leadership team that will drive the program’s roster building.
University athletic director Mike Bobinski praised the extension, stating that Lee’s proven negotiating acumen and strategic vision make him indispensable to Purdue’s ambition of competing at the highest level of collegiate football.
