Purdue football has added a new piece to its 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of edge rusher Owen Roberts, a three‑star prospect from York High School just outside Chicago.
Roberts arrives with a solid production record, having logged 61 tackles last season, including 14 for loss, two sacks and 16 quarterback hurries, showcasing the kind of disruptive talent the Boilermakers are targeting.
Defensive coordinator Kevin Kane has been vocal about reshaping the unit into one that emphasizes aggressiveness and relentless pressure on the quarterback, a philosophy that aligns perfectly with Roberts’ skill set.
The pledge marks the sixth known commitment in Purdue’s 2027 class and follows closely on the heels of another defensive addition, linebacker Ethan Reyna, who also chose the university in recent weeks.
Building an Aggressive Defense
Kane’s vision calls for a front that attacks from the snap, forcing offenses into uncomfortable situations. Roberts, listed at 6‑foot‑5 and 230 pounds, fits that mold and is expected to contribute early on the edge.
With offers from four other Big Ten programs as well as Kansas, Kansas State and Vanderbilt, Roberts’ decision underscores Purdue’s growing appeal among top Midwestern prospects. The Boilermakers hope the new recruits will help cement a defensive identity that can compete with the conference’s traditional powerhouses.
