A New Era for the Boilermakers
Purdue's defensive tackle room is entering a period of transition as the 2026 season approaches. The program has lost its two starting tackles from the previous year, Jamarrion Harkless and Demeco Kennedy, who have each moved on to new collegiate programs.
Both departures open opportunities for younger players and incoming transfers. The coaching staff has announced a shift toward a more traditional four‑man defensive line, a scheme that emphasizes interior pressure and run-stopping versatility.
Key Additions and Roles
Arkansas State transfer Ian Jeffries is slated to start at defensive tackle, bringing size and experience to the interior. Auburn’s TJ Lindsey, still recovering from a knee injury, will also compete for a starting spot despite limited recent game action.
The Boilermakers have bolstered depth with transfers Curt Neal and Wisdom Simms, both of whom fit the nose‑guard profile. Rodney Lora, a former UCF standout, adds further experience and flexibility along the line.
Senior Elijah St. John and junior Drake Carlson remain on the periphery of the rotation, while the 2026 recruiting class brings in top prospect Josiah Hope and productive defensive tackle Kobe Cherry, both expected to contribute early.
Eligibility Landscape
The NCAA's recent rule change grants athletes who enrolled before age 19 a fifth year of eligibility, a development that could affect Purdue's long‑term planning. For Curt Neal, this means he will exhaust his eligibility after the 2026 season, adding a sense of urgency to his impact on the line.
