On Thursday night, the Ball State women's soccer team traveled to Folk Field to face a Purdue side that arrived with momentum after scoring 22 goals across its last three outings.
Penalty Precision Fuels Purdue's Surge
The Boilermakers struck early, converting four of their first five penalty kicks and building a five‑goal lead by halftime. That early onslaught set the tone for a match that would see Purdue dominate possession, outshoot the Cardinals 29‑4 and earn eight corner kicks to Ball State's two.
Goalkeeper Kate Pallante fought valiantly, making six saves, but the volume of Purdue's attacks proved overwhelming. Meanwhile, Ball State's offensive attempts were limited, with only a handful of shots from Anna Kate Robillard, Grier Isaacson and Mary Jane Keller.
Defensively, the Cardinals were penalized more heavily, committing 14 fouls compared to Purdue's nine, a disparity that reflected the aggressive style of play adopted by the Boilermakers.
Despite the loss, Ball State remains hopeful. The team is scheduled to host Cincinnati at 1 p.m. on Sunday, a match that could provide a chance to reset and rebuild after a challenging opening stretch of the season.
