The Eredivisie encounter at Kooi Stadion turned volatile when a segment of Feyenoord’s traveling support ignited a barrage of fireworks onto the pitch. The spectacle, which unfolded in the second half, forced officials to suspend play for more than ten minutes as the glowing projectiles rained down.
Seven supporters of SC Cambuur suffered a range of injuries, including burns, hearing damage and eye trauma, after the pyrotechnics detonated near the stands. Medical personnel attended to the victims on site before they were transported to local hospitals for further treatment.
Club Responses and Calls for Accountability
Feyenoord’s general manager Robert Eenhoorn expressed deep concern over the injuries, emphasizing that the club would leave no stone unturned in identifying those responsible. “Our goalkeeper, Tjark Ernst, was also targeted by fireworks, and this is unacceptable,” he said. The club pledged to impose stadium bans and pursue legal action against the offenders.
SC Cambuur announced it would file an official complaint and coordinate medical after‑care for the injured fans. Head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst issued an apology to the club’s supporters, acknowledging the trauma caused by the incident.
Authorities Launch Investigations
The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed it will open a formal inquiry into the disturbance, focusing on the identification of the perpetrators and the potential imposition of fines, stadium bans and other sanctions. The governing body noted a disturbing pattern of similar incidents in recent seasons, including abandoned matches in November 2025 and September 2023.
