A Community Celebration of Inclusion
On June 11, 2026, New York City Council Member Phil Wong issued a public commendation for a basketball clinic that took place a week earlier at PS 88Q in Ridgewood, Queens.
The clinic, organized by the Take Heart Foundation in partnership with Hot Shots Basketball, brought together children with developmental disabilities, their families, licensed disability professionals, youth volunteers and coaches for a day of skill‑building, teamwork, confidence‑building and fun.
Graceann Faulkner, vice chair of the Take Heart Foundation, emphasized how the event created a welcoming space where children could engage in sport while being supported by experienced staff and volunteers.
Eric Faulkner, co‑founder and president of the foundation, noted the presence of credentialed developmental‑disability professionals and a network of youth volunteers that helped deliver high‑quality instruction.
Phil Wong praised the collaborative effort, stating that initiatives like this expand opportunities for children with disabilities to grow, learn and reach their full potential within the community.
The partnership between the Take Heart Foundation, Hot Shots Basketball and local stakeholders illustrates a growing model of inclusive programming that blends sport, education and community support.
