A Late Addition with Big Ambitions
Quentin McCoy, a Chicago native who starred at Lindblom Math and Science Academy, is set to join the University of Illinois men’s basketball program as a late transfer.
After two seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he appeared in just nine games, McCoy brings a modest but promising résumé to Champaign, standing 6‑foot‑3 and weighing 175 pounds.
He will don jersey number 5, a number last worn by AJ Redd, signaling his intent to carve out his own identity within the team.
His arrival adds depth to a backcourt that already features guards such as Andrej Stojakovic, Quentin Coleman, Stefan Vaaks, Lincoln Williams, Blake Fagbemi, Lucas Morillo and Ethan Brown.
Coach Brad Underwood, who describes his squad as a collection of ‘Everyday Guys,’ sees McCoy as a player who can contribute immediately while fitting the program’s culture of hard work and versatility.
The move reflects the Illini’s strategy of bolstering talent late in the recruitment cycle, aiming to blend seasoned experience with fresh energy as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Looking Ahead
Fans and analysts alike are watching how McCoy’s skill set will mesh with the existing roster, hoping his addition will translate into more competitive performances on the court.
